IALT make and justify inferences
Success Criteria - I can find clues and connect it to my prior knowledge to make an inference.
Read the excerpts and highlight the clues. Then write your inference in the box below.
Think about . . .
- Who the character might be (old, young, sporty, brainy etc)
- What kind of person the character is (kind, thoughtful, nasty, selfish etc.)
- How the character is feeling at that moment and why.
- Where and when this action is taking place.
Alex heart began to race. He could feel it pounding in his chest. His mouth was dry and his breathing shallow. How was he even going to be able to speak he wondered. All Alex could see was a blur of faces. His mother would be sitting there, back upright as still as a statue, waiting. No doubt she would have pushed her way to a seat somewhere in the front row.
‘And now we have Alex Sharp,’ announced his teacher.
My inference:
I can infer that alex is young, brainy and nervous. I think the reason he is nervous is because he might be doing a speech. I think this because when I was inferring it said his mother would be sitting back upright as still as a statue waiting. and it said he could feel it pounding in his chest. His mouth was dry and was breathing shallow.
